Made from CNC-machined from lightweight 6061-T6 aluminum billet. Premium U.S. made 6061-T6 aluminum billet ensures the consistency of the material's strength and balance. Tolerances are held to within .001", and numerous machining steps are used to ensure the lightest possible design. In addition to fit, finish is just as important and each piece is representative of this. Every pulley is inspected multiple times from machining to anodizing to stocking and finally at shipping time. If at any point a pulley does not pass inspection it is pulled from production.
What is the result of evolution? Unorthodox Racing Ultra Street Sets. Our Ultra Street Sets build upon the success of our Ultra Street crank pulleys by adding our Ultra Accessory pulleys. Like our Ultra Street pulleys, Ultra Street Sets are CNC-machined from lightweight 6061-T6 aluminum billet. Premium 6061-T6 aluminum billet ensures the consistency of the material's strength and balance. Tolerances for each crank and accessory pulley are held to within .001". In addition to the numerous machining steps taken to ensure the crank pulley is the lightest possible design, each accessory pulley is also lighter than the factory piece it replaces and includes lightening holes where possible. Ultra Accessory pulleys are also an excellent replacement for the brittle plastic pulleys found on many late model cars. Unorthodox Racing pulley sets on average can provide gains of 8 to 15 HP and 6 to 10 lbs.-ft. on normally aspirated engines and 10 to 18 HP and 10 to 20 lbs.-ft. on forced induction engines. Higher gains can be realized on vehicles that are modified.
These gains are obtained in two ways. First, and most important, is the weight loss. There is an average of 2.7 HP gained from every pound lost off the crank shaft. With the lighter accessory pulleys, as much as 15% to 30% more power can be found. 85% of our gains are from weight loss. Just look at the dyno results above - incredible gains from such a small part!
The rest of the gains are from underdriving, which accounts for about 15% of the total gains. We do not push underdriving for two main reasons. Our main reason is to keep charging systems, air conditioning, power steering, and water pumps moving fast enough for every day driving. Second, not much horsepower is gained from extreme underdriving.
All of the underdriving is done with the crank pulley, not the accessory pulleys (most applications). This is done so maximum weight loss can be achieved at the crank where most of the horsepower gains are found. The accessory pulleys for most applications are stock diameter. Since our Ultra Accessory pulleys are the same diameter as the stock units, you may install an Ultra Street crank pulley as a first step. Then, at a later date, you may purchase our accessories and install them without having to change belts again (on most models).
For certain applications underdriving ratios are modified with the accessory pulleys when underdriving is not feasible with the crank pulley. In these cases accessories and crank pulleys are only available as a set and are not available individually.
